F6 pupil April Shepherd has been selected to represent Scotland at the World Schools Debating Championship 2012.
April will travel to Cape Town in January as part of the five-strong Scotland team, who are hoping to secure a win for Scotland for the first time since 2007.
Team Scotland has taken the World Championship title three times since 1990. The High School of Dundee has a proud tradition of providing debaters for the team - nine out of the past 13 Scottish international teams have included at least one pupil from the High School, and a High School pupil has helped Scotland to victory on two out of its three championship wins.
April said: “I’m proud to have been selected as part of the team – Scotland always performs very strongly in the World Championships, so we will have a lot to live up to in 2012! I’m looking forward to travelling to Cape Town, and Team Scotland will be doing everything we can to secure a fourth Championship victory.”
The World Schools Debating Championship 2011 took place in Dundee and was convened by Mrs Irene McGrath, Head of Academic Administration at the High School of Dundee. It was attended by 420 representatives from 48 nations.
Irene said: "I am delighted that April has earned her place in the 2012 team and am sure she will be an excellent ambassador both for the School and for Scotland. Meanwhile I am looking forward to reverting to my role as Scottish team manager after the huge but enjoyable task of running the whole tournament!'
