Budding thespians from the High School of Dundee have presented a cheque for £800 to HM Frigate Unicorn.
The money was raised during the High School’s recent drama production, “Our Country’s Good”, which was staged on the Unicorn in June.
Lindsay Drummond, Head of Drama at the High School, said: “We are delighted to hand over this cheque in support of the ongoing preservation of the Unicorn, an important part of Dundee’s maritime past. Mr Roderick Stewart and Bob Hovell from the ship’s staff were incredibly generous in allowing the actors and production team unprecedented access to all areas of the ship. The play is set on board an eighteenth century ship sailing in the First Fleet to Australia, and having the opportunity to stage it on a ship from that period made the experience especially memorable.
“I also felt a personal satisfaction that we were introducing a whole new audience to the Unicorn, and very much hope that they remain supportive of her future role in the new developments taking place in the city.”
The cheque was accepted by Bob Hovell, Operations Director for HM Frigate Unicorn. "We were delighted that the High School of Dundee chose Unicorn for the staging of this extraordinary play,” said Roderick Stewart, Operations Director for HM Frigate Unicorn. “Unicorn, like any old lady, likes a bit of attention, and the cast obviously enjoyed the challenge of working with the ship's unusual and atmospheric spaces. I think we all had great fun!"
