Installation of All-Weather Surfaces - update

Update: Tuesday 27 September

Fencing starts to take shape at DalnacraigInstallation of cables, drainage, kerbing and fence uprights is now underway.

Unfortunately, the heavy rain in recent weeks has meant that work is now three weeks behind schedule.  However, it is hoped that work will progress on laying the pitch sub-base over the next fortnight.

Update: Tuesday 30 August

Levelling of the site at Dalnacraig has now been completed.  Installation of the drainage system and the base for the pitches is now underway, and is expected to take three or four weeks.

The car park at Mayfield is now complete and has been formally handed over to the school.

Update: Monday 1 August

Work in progress at DalnacraigThe weather has allowed work at Dalnacraig to progress ahead of schedule, with some work taking place on Saturdays.

In the course of the first week virtually all the top soil from the site was removed. This was a major operation, involving the removal of 400mm of topsoil across the site. The dividing wall has been removed and the former blaes tennis courts have been dug up along with part of the en-tous-cas courts, and top soil laid down in preparation for seeding/turfing later on. Work has now commenced in digging out the northern part of the site down to the proposed level - this will be the most important operation over the next four weeks, at the end of which the site will be level. So far the subsoil has proved perfect for use in building up the southern part of the site and there have been no difficulties with finding rock.  It is hoped that these conditions will also exist across the rest of the site.

Extension of the car park at Mayfield Sports CentreIt is to be hoped that the weather will stay in our favour and we can remain ahead of schedule.

The car park at Mayfield has also benefited from the relatively good weather.  The base has been largely prepared and kerbs and paving blocks are now being laid.  This work is progressing well.

Update: Wednesday 13 July

Work on the installation of all-weather surfaces at Dalnacraig is scheduled to begin this Thursday, 14 July.

The programme of construction is scheduled to last fourteen weeks.  Levelling of the site will constitute the first phase of development, and is expected to take three weeks.

The plans include two all-weather pitches for hockey, one of which will also be used for tennis in the summer months. These pitches will be used extensively by the school but will also be available for use by local hockey and tennis clubs in the wider community.
