Happy Christmas from the High School of Dundee!

Dear Parents and Friends,

Whilst the adverse weather over the past few weeks has certainly not been without its challenges it has also brought out everything that is good about the High School. The pupils have embraced the conditions and everything associated with them with cheerful resilience and commitment, and have continued to study effectively under the circumstances. I am particularly grateful to all my colleagues throughout the school for the way they have coped with these on-going difficulties. The teaching staff have shown flexibility, flair and commitment, particularly in the Junior School with their added challenges, the office staff have coordinated the many phone calls and enquiries from parents and others with endless courtesy and patience and the janitors, the caterers and the cleaning staff have dealt admirably with the many additional challenges that have come their way.

Throughout all of this I have been determined that we should continue as far as possible as normal. This is where you all deserve thanks for supporting us in our efforts to keep the shop open. It is always a hectic time of year with many traditional events and some less traditional. The Caird Hall concert was a triumph, Tin Pan Ali a revelation, the Nativity a joy and the Carol Service a sublime way to end the term. The various Christmas parties and dances were full of the uncomplicated enthusiasm, energy and creativity that we like to associate with such events at this time of year - heart-warming and great fun too!

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year, in the sincere hope that you have not been stuck at an airport or had your holiday plans dashed in other ways. The holiday period will pass by in a rush but I wish those going on the two New Year ski trips good snow and a safe return. The staff will be in school for an in-service on Friday 7th, but I look forward to welcoming the rest of the High School family back on Monday 10th January.

With all good wishes,

Dr John D Halliday
Rector
