The High School of Dundee has submitted an application for planning permission to develop further its outdoor sporting facilities on Arbroath Road.
The planned development will see two current rugby pitches levelled out and upgraded with a synthetic playing surface suitable for hockey and tennis, and the current grass hockey pitches converted to use for rugby.
The development also includes additional parking at the nearby Mayfield sports grounds, designed to significantly reduce disruption to the local area during matches, and increase safety for all road users and pedestrians.
Commenting on the plans, Dr John Halliday, Rector of the High School, said: “The introduction of synthetic playing surfaces, now established as the norm in most places, will allow us to develop our hockey to its full potential. In addition, the development also allows for the creation of two high-quality rugby pitches on our existing hockey fields, which will benefit our pupils, the FP rugby and cricket clubs, and a number of local sports clubs.
“I’m also pleased that this development will allow us to increase facilities for car and coach parking, with significant benefits for the local area.
“The proposals also allow for floodlighting, to enable the school and a small number of other groups to access the new sporting facilities. However, to minimize any possible impact on our neighbours, we have proposed a set limit of 9pm for the use of lighting on Mondays to Saturdays, and no use of the floodlighting at all on Sundays. ”
