Debating success for Megan and Andrew

Debaters 2Form 2 pupils Megan Wallace and Andrew Kelly fought off fierce competition to win "The Auld Hoose" debating competition in Aberdeen recently.

Hosted by Robert Gordon's College, the competition attracts teams from across Scotland.  Topics for debate in this year's competition included protection for indigenous people, banning size zero models, and compulsory drugs testing in schools, with the final motion focusing on the topic of media coverage for extremist parties.

The pairing of Megan and Andrew beat teams from Robert Gordon's and George Heriot to secure their win.  In addition, Megan was named best S2 speaker in the competition.

A second High School team of Catherine Mackay (F2) and Sophie Kelly (F1) also participated in the Auld Hoose.

Following their win, Megan and Andrew are now preparing for the East of Scotland Final, scheduled to take place on Friday 4 June at St Andrews, where they will debate the motion “This House believes that the United States should pay reparations for slavery.”
