Crime and Punishment comes to life for High School pupils

Crime and PunishmentForm 3 pupils at the High School of Dundee are paying a series of visits to Tayside Police HQ, as part of their classes in Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies.

The visits, which include the actual processing of a “prisoner” from intake to incarceration in a cell, a tour of the control room and CCTV room, and a tour of the police museum, give pupils a first-hand understanding of police activities.

The visits have been led by Daniel Goodey, Head of Philosophy, Religion and Sociology at the school.  “This tour helps to illustrate some of the theories that pupils have been introduced to within the course, such as the purposes of punishment, ethical questions regarding offenders, and finding a balance between privacy and public safety,” explained Daniel.  “Taking the pupils out of the classroom really helps to bring the subject to life, and we’re very grateful to everyone at Tayside Police for hosting these visits.”
