High School author pens prizewinning story

Emily Baxter was named winner of the 2017 Burgess Short Story Competition

Putting pen to paper has won a High School of Dundee pupil a city-wide literary contest.

Emily Baxter, F3, was last night named as the winner of the Burgess Short Story Competition for her composition, 'Bridge Beyond the Grave', a tale which inventively combines murder mystery with the Tay Bridge disaster.

Open to S3 pupils from high schools in Dundee, the annual contest aims to identify the city's most talented teenage short story authors.

Emily said, "I always like a bit of drama in my stories. I wanted to do a disaster story and the one which immediately came to me was the bridge disaster."
