L7 First Aid

St Andrews Ambulance Association Cadets

L7 First AidThe L7 First Aid Club is now in its twelfth year of operation, and continues to go from strength to strength. The L7 pupils follow a 24 week course which is very similar in content to the adult’s ‘Standard Course’. For this reason three members of staff run the weekly sessions: Mrs Gill, Miss Cardno and Mrs Halliwell.

The skills taught range from the recognition of problems and the subsequent first aid required for nose bleeds, choking, sprains, strains and broken bones, and then more demanding skills such as carrying out C.P.R. Towards the end of the course the children are given small scenarios to deal with, or to think of for themselves.

At the end of the 24 weeks there is an exam for the children to achieve St Andrews Ambulance Association certification. This remains current for three years, lasting well into Senior School when there are further opportunities of continuing First Aid.
