It is the School’s aim to ensure a caring and protective environment in which all pupils have the freedom to attain their full potential and are given their rights as stated in the Children (Scotland) Act 1995.
In the light of current concern about child abuse, and in line with changes in the law, all schools are now required to report to the relevant authorities where it is thought possible that any child has come, or may come, to harm as a consequence of abuse.
The School has developed a number of objectives to support these aims and requirements.
The Rector and two trained designated officers, covering the Junior School and Senior School respectively, carry responsibility for child protection matters.
Any parent who wishes to talk further about child protection and the safety of children is free to contact the School, and should ask to speak to the appropriate designated officer about a ‘confidential matter’. The School has good contacts with the school medical officer, social workers and police, any of whom may become involved if abuse is suspected. Parents should be reassured that it is the aim of the School always to act in the best interests of the child. To that end, the fullest possible involvement and consultation with parents is encouraged.
